The Heritage cell of Mohamed Sathak A.J.Academy of Architecture, Chennai Launched an Exhibition to Promote Cultural Awareness at Anna Centenary Library, Kotturpuram on occasion of celebration Madras Month,2024.
To foster a deeper appreciation of cultural heritage, the Heritage Cell of the Mohamed Sathak A.J.Academy of Architecture has launched an exhibition to engage and educate the public on Cultural Heritage. This initiative highlights the importance of preserving architectural and cultural landmarks while showcasing the rich historical tapestry embedded within our built environment.
The exhibition features a diverse collection of documentation of heritage structures that illustrate significant heritage sites and architectural marvels from various regions of Chennai. Through interactive displays and informative panels, visitors are invited to explore the stories behind these historic structures and the craftsmanship that defines them.
On 31st August, Mr.T.Udayachandran, IAS Officer, Commissioner-State Department of Archeology, Finance secretary of Tamil Nadu, visited the exhibition. The activities of Heritage Cell and its commitment to the preservation and documentation of heritage structures was presented to Mr.T.Udayachandran by Ar.Gayathri Sampath, Conservation Architect and Assistant Professor at MSAJAA.
The 2nd year M.Arch students (Ar.Madhivadhani and Ar.Angeline Infanctia D’Silva) organized a series of initiatives at St. Joseph School to foster awareness of architecture and local heritage among the school students. The event featured a variety of engaging activities, including quiz and drawing competitions, with a focus on identifying the architectural elements of the nearby heritage structure- Joseph Church in Perumpannaiyur. Through interactive activities, the school students gained insights into the history and design of their local environment, developing an appreciation for heritage preservation and the cultural significance of community landmarks.
C.P. Ramaswami Aiyer foundation in collaboration with Mohamed Sathak A.J. Academy of Architecture,Chennai commemorated the 384 th Madras Day with a special event capturing the essence of Madras on the 25th ,26th,28 th and 29 th of August 2023 at the Shakuntala Art Gallery, C.P.Arts Centre, Eldams road, Chennai. An exhibition of student works featuring a number of urban design as well as conservation projects focussing on history, culture, people and place were displayed at the venue for public viewing. Mohamed Sathak A.J.Academy of Architecture is the first and only institution in South India that offers a Masters in Conservation studies. The guests of honour Prof. Nalini Thakur- (Conservation Architect) and Ar.Kurian George(Former President, IIA Chennai) unveiled the exhibition and shared their insights about Madras, its heritage and the importance of understanding the morphology of an urban realm in the context of development and new-age technology. Their talks were inspiring and kept the audience engaged and enthralled. The next item on the agenda was the launch of a single-player offline quiz game "Madras Trivia" based on Madras with over 600 trivia questions designed by Abijith Kumar- a 4th year student of B.Arch at Mohamed Sathak A.J. Academy of Architecture. The game promises an engaging learning experience to test and build their knowledge of Madras aka Chennai. The student expressed his sincere gratitude for the immense encouragement and support given by the institution in bringing his project to fruition.The game is available for free download on both Android and Windows platforms.
The four day event concluded successfully and brought many important aspects of Madras to the fore and was a beautiful tribute to the city’s rich cultural heritage
In Collaboration with Madras Literary Society . Venue: Madras Literary Society as a part of the Inauguration of the Heritage Cell at MSAJAA, we present an Interactive Exhibition. This Exhibition consists of two exhibits namely Color Me & Join the Conversation. The aim of these exhibits is not only to provide information, but also to make students & general public engage with the exhibition.
As a part of our 3rd semester studio we did documentation in konerirajapuram in the month of July. Documentation focused on Agraharam streetscape, Temple with tank and different housing typologies.
As a part of our documentation, we exhibited our works to the villagers to understand their perspective and socio-cultural aspect of the village. The primary school children were participated in the sketching event on ‘What do you like about Konerirajapurm’.
