Dr. Ranee Vedamuthu is a Professor of Architecture and currently heads the Mohamed Sathak A J Academy of Architecture, Chennai as the Director.
She formerly headed the School of Architecture and Planning, at Anna University as the Dean and headed Anna University as the Registrar prior to her retirement. She was nominated by the State Government of Tamilnadu to the Council of Architecture for two consecutive terms (2015-2021) and was a member of its Executive Committee between 2015- 18.
Has 37 years of teaching/ research/ professional experience having graduated from the SAP, University of Madras in 1983. She started her career as a Teaching Research Fellow at Anna University and went on to do a Master’s Degree in Architecture and Ph.D. She also has a Graduate Certificate in World Heritage Conservation from the University of Dublin, Ireland.
Was awarded, the Career Award for Young Teachers awarded by the AICTE (1998- 2001), the Getty Foundation Fellowship in April 2015; and the German Academic Exchange (DAAD) grant in 2016.
Was the Architectural Research Head for the Chennai pavilion at the Seoul Biennale on Architecture and Urbanism from September – November 2017 in collaboration with InKo Center, Chennai
Was recognized by the Indian Institute of Architects, TN Chapter for the Hon’ble Teacher Award in 2012; Life member of INTACH and e-member of SAH (Society of Architectural Historians, US; currently the Co-Convener of the INTACH Chennai Center
She has a number of research publications in prestigious National and International journals (refereed). Twelve scholars have obtained Ph.D. degrees under her supervision.
She is a fellow of the Indian Institute of Architects and a Council Member of the IIA 2020- 23. As a Council Member of the IIA, she was the Convener of the Board for the Affiliation of Institutions. She is currently the Joint Secretary of IIA National.
Ar. Sheeba is an educator as well as a practicing architect, also an alumna of the School of Architecture and Planning, Anna University and Adhiyamaan College of Engineering having a Master’s in General Architecture, and has keen interests in History, Design Thinking & Research.
Her interests spread across varied domains particularly studying and documenting Rural Communities, identifying issues and interventions in Urban areas, and emphasizing need-based Housing.
She has undertaken projects on her own in residential, educational, and religious areas for the past 10 years. Being a Meritorious student, she is a recipient of the “Memento Awardee” in M.Arch and (Late) Thiru. B. C. Sengupta Endowment Award for the “Best student in M.Arch”.
Her teaching career has envisioned and guided many students for the past 11 years. She also has numerous publications to her credit.
Ar. Vandana Balakrishnan has over twenty years of experience in the fields of Architecture education and practice. Apart from her registration with the Council of Architecture, India, she is an Associate of the Indian Institute of Architects and Institute of Urban Designers, India. Having specialised in Urban Design she has worked on a wide range of planning, Architecture, landscape, and interior design projects. She has taught in several colleges in the country including School of Architecture and Planning (SPA), New Delhi.
